A trip which one can start in Velden as well as in Pörtschach. Our start point is Pörtschach with the castle Leonstain.
On the cycle track R4 it goes along the north shore of the Wörthersee to Velden. Because the cycle track ends at the department store of "Billa", we drive a short while through the centre of Pörtschach in the direction of Villach. In front of the "Kärntnerhof" we turn tp the right into Köstenberger Landesstrasse and go uphill to Kranzlhofen. At the "Wurzelschnitzer" in Kranzlhofen we turn to the left to Saisersee. Who would like to do a short break before a longer uphill drive, should visit the Chorturmkirche (beautiful rococo altar). However, we take a deep breath an go over 222 height meters to Köstenberg.
Past the junction to the Saisersee it goes over Oberjeserz east (Attention:: beautiful look at the Saisersee) to Unterwurzen where we have a small flat piece of road before the next increase to Köstenberger Landesstrasse. Straight ahead we already see the church of Köstenberg. If we have reached the highest point of the trip (766 m at Köstenberg), we turn to the right and cycle into the direction of Velden. Now we go downhill to Dröschitz. After the valley depression it goes again slightly uphill to Kerschdorf where we turn after the department store of Gaggl " to the left into the direction of Saisersee.
From now on it becomes pleasant, because ther are no increases on the way to to Pörtschach. Between fields and meadows, always the Karawanken to the right side, we cycle to a beautiful high plateau, passing the church of Ebenfeld and old farmhouses to Trabenig. At the junction to the Saisersee we drive straight ahead to St. Martin/Techelsberg.
After the sports field we come to the municipality and fire station where we turn to the right. Passing the guesthouse Ulbing ", the elementary school, we will rapidly drive downhill to Sekull where we turn left before the transformer on the left into the St. Martiner Weg. A narrow asphalt road (caution countertraffic!) leads us to a road fork with a torment [where we keep on to the left, easily uphill. In Windischberg, at Moosburger Landesstrasse we turn to the right and reach, finally, after 1,3 kilometers downhill driving Pörtschach.
